With every new study published awareness of single-use plastics harm becomes more evident, we learn that plastic is full of toxic chemicals, that plastic is leached into the water, soil and then into our bodies. Single-use plastic is used for a few minutes by consumers and then lasts forever in some form.
According to the EPA, ” Rather than biodegrading, plastic waste often breaks down into tiny pieces know as microplastics (less than 5 mm in size), which are nearly impossible to clean up once they are in the environment.
Recycling has not been a solution since only a small percentage - According to the EPA, less than 11% - gets recycled. And in 2020 the world produced 367 metric tons of plastic waste that is still existing either in a pile at a recycle warehouse, in a landfill, or as trash polluting the Environment.
